About AUSTLANG
AUSTLANG assembles information about Australian Indigenous languages from a number of sources. It provides a list of Australian Indigenous language/dialect names together with information about each language - different spellings and names, past classifications, speaker numbers, locations and documentation. The database was first put together by Nick Thieberger in 1996 (then called ILDB).
AIATSIS is currently updating the information in the database. AIATSIS is also developing a system which makes the database available on the web.
On the basis of feedback received so far, AIATSIS prepared an AUSTLANG development proposal. We welcome your comments on the design and functions as outlined in the proposal.
